About
Arno Korteweg (2004) is an artist/educator born in The Netherlands. Based in Utrecht.
“In my practice as an artist and educator, I research how existing institutions and constructs have been formed—and how they can be reshaped. By restructuring (art)history through erasing, distortion, adding and hiding, I question what remains when systems are touched upon. Which rules and structures persist, and which fade away?
I extend this critical approach to education. Which structures are used here? Why have they been chosen? How do they shape what students think and create? Art and education are not neutral—they have been constructed by past generations. By trying to expose their foundations, new possibilities may emerge. What happens when we let go of the structures that dictate what art and knowledge ‘should’ be?
My practice is a search for transformation. How can conventional and unconventional forms challenge each other? When do they strengthen, and when do they lack together? By questioning material and context, I aim to create space for alternative ways of thinking, making, and learning.
